What do you mean by “Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LA DA)?
This subgroup is referred to as latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). LADA is a slow, progressive form of diabetes.
There are two types of diabetes- Type 1 and Type 2. LADA sort of sits between and overlaps the two. It’s basically a progressive condition which results in type 1 diabetes in adults. It doesn’t usually occur until after age 35, but it’s very similar and is sometimes misdiagnosed as being type 2.
The difference between people with LADA and type 2 diabetes is that LADA patients tend to be younger on onset and not overweight (like people ith type 2). People with LADA are generally insulin deficient rather than insulin resistant.
The reason LADA is often mistaken as type 2 diabetes is becuase, initially, it responds to type 2 medication managment.
